General Aviation Stakeholder Meeting

December 17, 2024

Trevor Brum presented and Courtney Johnson answered questions.
Let Trevor ‘tbrumm’ at the airport email site ‘co.slo.ca.us’ know if you want to be on the list and didn’t get the notification for this meeting.

Reminders

Wait for the gate to close completely before driving off.

There is a wash rack on the West Side by the fuel pumps. Please use it and don’t wash your plane anywhere else.

Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots at Oceano was a success with over 20 airplanes participating and pilots from the Mustang Flying Club event overflying the airport.

Future GA Development

They hired a surveyor to mark the 500' line from the center of the runway. There are orange lines painted on the pavement marking the building free zone. Courtney reiterated that no changes to Site J and K will be made until they are required. There will be an RFP issued early next year for the site. It will not require that all of the existing hangars be removed, but the responses can propose that. No construction is anticipated before 2028. It was noted that the existing site is 2-3' above the runway so any response to the RFP will have to take that into account.

GA Piston Aircraft

Chris asked if there was any work being done by the airport to have a GA shop on the field since there are none now. Courtney said that there are talks underway with ACI to have ACI provide a space or hire a GA maintenance person.

West Side

Trevor is close to an agreement with the city to provide water for the West Side. Any new hangars will require fire suppression and without adequate water pressure that is not possible.

Construction on Airport Drive

Lot 5 is being paved to provide 140 spaces for rental cars. The 65 spaces near the terminal will be repurposed for priority parking or some other use.

Construction on Airport Drive

Susan and Erik reported on the SLO Pilots Community engagement meeting. They have talked with airport staff and next year will start to have display days on the second Sunday of each month to correspond with EAA Meetings. They have also talked about having an airport day like we had before the new terminal was built.

Issues

Not related to GA but parking is a problem for people flying commercial. Several people have expressed interest in off-airport parking services but none have decided it was financially viable.

Your badge expires on your birthday and people often forget (including Courtney). They are going to look into sending out a reminder a month before they expire.

Ron had trouble using the tenant feedback form for submitting questions and comments to the airport staff. It seems to be broken and won’t submit if you put your phone number in the form. Trevor has been informed of the problem and will get it fixed. [Information for airport hangars and tiedowns can be found on this page.]

Angel Flight West

Russell Sterns talked about what they do and asked for volunteers. One pilot, Chris Isler is a volunteer. They can be contacted through their website.
